Overview
This position is part of the Office of Science-Headquarters, Department of Energy. A successful candidate will serve as a Physicist in the Office of High Energy Physics (HEP), and will manage, coordinate and communicate activities relating to the Advanced Technology R&D effort as part of the HEP program, specifically supporting the science of particle accelerators and the technologies used in particle accelerators and storage rings, as well as the fundamental physics of charged particle beams.

Duties:

The Office of High Energy Physics (HEP) of the Department of Energy has an opening for a program manager to handle HEP’s portfolio of scientific research in the physics of particle accelerators, including areas of related advanced technology R&D. The major components of this portfolio include research activities at DOE national labs and universities, R&D programs to advance key technologies such as high-field magnets and superconducting accelerating cavities, as well as a suite of accelerator testbeds and user facilities which explore advanced accelerator concepts and novel technologies.

As a Physicist, you will:

• Serve as a Program Manager overseeing a portfolio of high energy physics research activities, organizing independent peer reviews, recommending funding allocations, organizing meetings, serving as a liaison on committees, and monitoring project performance.
• Develop, recommend, and implement strategies, milestones, policies, and short- and long-range plans for the development of new technologies applicable to next-generation particle accelerators for HEP and other sciences.
• Propose and implement adjustments to programs during the budget approval process and unanticipated developments. Develop, coordinate, and organize funding allocations for assigned programs.
• Review and evaluate the progress of ongoing scientific research and related technology developments through review of technical progress reports and on-site visits.

Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the following Basic Education Requirement:

A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. or
B. Combination of education and experience — courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education
