The Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) (https://science.osti.gov/WDTS) of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking qualified applicants to fill an Interdisciplinary Program Manager (GS-0801/1301-13/14/15) position to serve as a Program Manager for STEM workforce development programs.
The position is critical to sustain undergraduate level workforce development programs and broadly engage community colleges for the Office of Science. Training undergraduate students in a broad spectrum of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) areas, including critical and emerging technologies, is important to support the development of the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technical professionals to address challenges on U.S. energy, environment, and national security.
The Interdisciplinary Program Manager will serve as an expert to provide oversight of WDTS workforce programs with community colleges and lead the development of creative partnerships approaches and models with community colleges in support of fostering a highly skilled talent pool for future scientific and technical workforce in a broad range of areas. Major duties include innovation and prioritization to address evolving scientific and technical workforce needs in relation to DOE, DOE national laboratories, and the nation; program planning and execution; conduct peer review and selection; promote WDTS programs through strategic communication and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to broaden the participation in workforce development programs.
This position requires training and knowledge in physical sciences or engineering areas supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and familiarity with the research portfolio supported by DOE’s Office of Science (https://science.osti.gov/Programs). Applicants must have:
– demonstrated mastery knowledge of and substantial professional experience with undergraduate education and training, especially when community colleges are involved,
– demonstrated management effectiveness with STEM workforce training programs at DOE national laboratories or similar professional working environments, and experience of building and sustaining institutional partnerships,
– knowledge and skills of effective communication pertaining to promoting STEM workforce development programs to both technical and non-technical audience.
