Professor/Meiere Chair in Physics
Indiana University Indianapolis, School of Science Department of Physics invites applications for an endowed professorship in physics. The appointment will begin August 1, 2025 (or earlier) on the Indianapolis campus. The successful candidate will be the Inaugural Meiere Professor of Physics. The Chair includes a significant annual funding stream that can be used for a wide variety of purposes, within limits of Indiana University policy.
The search is part of a major expansion of the research profile of IU Indianapolis. We expect close collaboration with the newly established Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute at Indiana University Indianapolis (CBATI). The creation of CBATI, the upcoming construction of a new research building, and the establishment of other new research institutes, consortia, and academic programs is part of a record-breaking new investment in the Indianapolis campus by the Indiana State Legislature.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding scholarly record of interdisciplinary research related to one or more areas of interest for the Institute, as well as high-impact publications and a strong record of federal funding as Principal Investigator. Candidates with established, externally funded research groups (including postdocs and graduate students) are strongly encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in biophysics, bioengineering, biomaterials science, or related fields. The ideal candidate may use optical approaches as a mean to both characterize systems and produce research breakthroughs, while interacting with other IU centers and researchers. In addition to the School of Science, the IU Indianapolis campus is home to the IU School of Medicine; the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering; and the IU School of Dentistry.
Highly desired experience includes the development, improvement, or application of biotechnologies with the potential to foster human health and the understanding of fundamental biophysical problems.
The successful candidate is expected to lead interdisciplinary research and collaborative endeavors that transcend institutional silos to initiate and advance ambitious research initiatives at IU Indianapolis, and to have a significant impact on the campus’ growing health, life, and technology ecosystem. The Candidate will also teach 1 course per academic year in the physics curriculum, and actively mentor graduate and postdoctoral scholars.
Candidates are expected to possess a PhD from a field related to the themes described and to be tenured at their current institution. Candidates should have a record of outstanding research productivity with impact in any of the above-mentioned areas, or a demonstrated ability to develop one, as well as the ability to secure and sustain federally funded research.
