The Department of Physics, Geosciences, and Astronomy at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2025-2026 to contribute to our BS Physics program, which includes concentrations in engineering physics, general physics, and physics teaching. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Physics or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2025.
This position also supports a new engineering program in an adjacent department, so preference will be given to candidates with an engineering physics background. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load, include and engage undergraduate students in an active research program, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. Teaching duties may include a combination of core physics courses; physics and engineering service courses; general education courses; and upper-level electives. All introductory physics and astronomy courses at EKU are inquiry-based and taught in a studio-style classroom setting. We seek a colleague with academic training and practical experience that complements the department’s expertise and resources. Application materials will describe the candidate’s commitment to teaching, research, and service.
