The Department of Physics in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Postdoctoral Research Scholar position beginning in Fall 2024. This is a fixed-term, fiscal year (twelve months) appointment with no tenure implications, but with the possibility of extension annually based on satisfactory performance and funding availability. Candidates must be within four years from receipt of their doctoral degree.
The ExoHad [Exo(tic) Had(ron)] Collaboration, https://www.exohad.org, seeks to fill a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position to advance its scientific goals in theoretical and phenomenological nuclear physics. The collaboration was inaugurated in 2023 to explore all aspects of exotic-hadron physics, including predictions obtained from lattice QCD, the reliable extraction of the existence and properties of exotics from experimental data, and descriptions of their structure from phenomenological models.
The position is grant-funded for one (1) year with an anticipated extension for an additional year, depending upon the availability of funds and performance. Candidates with research interests in exotic spectroscopy, especially in model building, are preferred. The position will be administered through Arizona State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Indiana University, with the home institution of record for the first year being Arizona State University. The candidate will be a member of the ExoHad Collaboration and will interact frequently with collaboration members.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in theoretical nuclear or particle physics, or related discipline, by the time of the appointment.
- Candidates must be within four years from receipt of their doctoral degree.
- Interest in performing research in the theory of exotic hadrons.
- Evidence of effectively communicating research through conference presentations and/or journal papers.
Desired Qualifications:
- Expertise in the theory of hadrons
- Experience with hadronic modeling, analytic or numerical or both
- Experience with numerical programming
- Strong scientific writing skills
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the ASU Charter.
