Overview
This position is part of the Office of Science – Headquarters, Department of Energy. A successful candidate will serve in the Office of High Energy Physics (HEP), within the Office of Science and will manage, coordinate and communicate activities relating to scientific facilities for astrophysics.

Duties:

This position is part of the Office of Science, Office of High Energy Physics, Facilities Division. This position is responsible for the management of scientific facilities, and the planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of facility operations; providing liaison with the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) on the use of their user facilities by HEP Sponsored researchers; and management of the portfolio of Small Business Innovation Research program activities. The duties include:

  • Serve as a nationally recognized scientific authority on high energy physics and recognized authoritative expert on the management of scientific facilities, and as such has the responsibility to plan, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate facility operations.
  • Identify issues and factors to be considered largely undefined, including those surrounding the operation of High Energy Physics (HEP) supported facilities and provides recommendations to solve highly complex scientific undefined problems and to identify key synergisms/leverage points that will facilitate scientific breakthroughs in high energy physics.
  • Prepare, justify, and support the portions of the Office’s budget relating to scientific user facilities. Propose and implement adjustments to programs during the budget approval process and unanticipated developments.   • Oversee, direct, review and analyze laboratory work proposals that require HEP concurrence. Proposals are reviewed for consistency with HEP priorities, possible resource conflicts with the HEP mission, and unauthorized commitments of agency funds.
