Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Experimental Materials Physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at James Madison University invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics with expertise in experimental materials physics. This is a full-time appointment beginning August, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to initiate and maintain a vibrant research program involving students, while being an engaging teacher using evidence-based practices at all levels of the undergraduate physics curriculum. Particular needs include courses for non-science majors, laboratories, and electronics classes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field, relevant postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience, a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates and a continuous effort to seek external funding and publication. A key factor in this hiring will be the candidate’s ability to integrate JMU’s existing instrumentation and facilities into a research program involving our undergraduates. JMU has an HPC infrastructure and several research grade instruments including powder XRD, SEM with EDS, VASE ellipsometer and an AFM. There is also a class 10000 cleanroom with two deposition systems and a class 1000 photolithography room. See this link for further information. Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates whose scholarship and/or teaching can integrate with existing or developing programs in the JMU College of Science and Math are particularly encouraged to apply; e.g. with our interdisciplinary Center for Materials Science, the Madison Accelerator Laboratory, and/or nuclear sciences.
