TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN PHYSICS
The Department of Physics at Wake Forest University is seeking applications for a tenure track position beginning July 2025. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Physics or a related area and are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to both teaching and research. The department is searching for candidates whose research is in one of three areas:
- Biophysics (including all areas of experimental or theoretical/computational biophysics but particularly in biomaterials, bioelectronics, disease-focused biophysics, or applications involving machine learning),
- Condensed Matter Physics (particularly in materials-focused experimental or theoretical/computational research), or
- Gravitational Physics and Astrophysics (including data analysis, modeling of gravitational-wave sources, numerical relativity, and related topics in multi-messenger astrophysics).
Those whose research interests complement those of current Wake Forest Physics faculty are particularly encouraged to apply, as we are looking to increase opportunities for collaborative research. In keeping with the Teacher-Scholar model practiced at Wake Forest University, the successful candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a focus on creating a learning environment that welcomes all students into scientific study and supports their ongoing success, along with establishing a vigorous, externally supported research program.
The application package should include a letter of application explaining the candidate’s interest in joining the Wake Forest academic community, as well as providing the names and contact information for at least three references, a curriculum vitae, a statement of research plans (maximum of 5 pages), and a statement of teaching philosophy (maximum of 3 pages). Candidates should be sure to speak to their experience and/or plans for creating inclusive classrooms, varied mentoring opportunities, and/or other activities conducive to pursuing a diverse and equitable community of learning and belonging. Opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborations exist with several Centers: the Translational Science Center, the Center for Functional Materials, the Center for Nanotechnology and Quantum Materials, the Center for Molecular Signaling, and the Sabin Center for Environment and Sustainability. Opportunities are also available through the newly established Wake Forest Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem, one of the fastest-growing urban technology innovation districts in the United States.
